With the introduction of the Utah Jazz’s new Mountain Basketball identity, it was time to evolve the Salt Lake City Stars visual identity to better connect the organization with its NBA affiliate. The updated system draws from the Stars’ original logo, reworking the mark into a modern throwback while building a visual language that connects back to the broader Jazz identity.

As part of the in-house creative team, I worked with our designers and motion team to develop the motion system for the new Stars identity. My work included animating the primary logo and secondary marks, creating transitions that allowed the logo family to seamlessly transform from one mark to another, and developing loops that could be used across different applications.

The visual system extended the Mountain Basketball language through 3D rock imagery and geometric patterns, adapting those elements into the shape of the Stars mark to create a distinct expression for the team. The rebrand launched with a film that moves from the original Stars logo into the updated identity, establishing the transformation as the starting point for the new system.
